What is Blackflow Prevention?
Backflow prevention is regulated by New York City to protect the city’s water supply from contaminants and pollution. Backflow prevention devices are installed to protect the city’s water supply. These devices do not allow water to flow backward into the main water supply. The water flows into the buildings rather than out of the building if there is a problem with the water pressure.
Updated Plumbing Code That You Need to Know
The New York City Plumbing Code was updated effective July 1, 2008. It was the first monumental change in the Plumbing Code in over four decades. This new code stated that any device or appliance that connects to the water supply system must be protected against backflow and prevent contamination of the water supply system. This code also provides for these devices to be tested by a certified backflow prevention tester each year. If your business has an ice maker, take note of this because you must have the backflow prevention device checked every year. If you haven’t done this yet, call Karl’s Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling to schedule your yearly backflow prevention test.
